The Key Question to Ask Naysayers

Your colleagues may have good reasons for why they don’t immediately support a new idea.

Here’s a question to ask that will help sharpen the plan and bring your organization along.

Audio: “I think one of the most critical things in any organization, when you’re trying to create a consistent global brand is that you must bring your organization along. And there are a lot of people that have great reasons why they don’t immediately support the direction that you’re trying to take it. And so one of the things that I’ve found to be extremely effective, is to have them articulate what the solution is for them, to be able to support it. So I always use the question, what would need to be true? WWNTBT- what would need to be true, for you to support it? For you to be behind this idea, where we want to take the brand promise and the brand expression. And so, if you do that up front and they articulate their solution, then you can go out and test that, you can go out and understand can I make that true, and then once you do, that immediately brings your colleagues along with you. And so I have found that to be an extremely effective tool over the years.”
